My name is Tony and I created this blog to help readers understand the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to credit and finances. The goal is to attempt to put things in layman terms. I’ve been in business for more than 30 years. I’m always surprised how intimidated some of the most brilliant people are of their credit and finances. This blog it for anyone who hate the thought of walking into a mortgage office, credit union, bank or automotive dealership and being turned down for a loan.
A Little Back Story
I come from very humble beginnings growing up in Detroit. My parents never owned a credit card so when I went off to college I had zero financial IQ. Junior and Senior year of college I received three credit cards with an average limit of $750.00. I was a broke college student couldn’t work because I was an athlete. I didn’t know anything about credit or how it worked so I used the credit cards. To me it was like free money, I had no idea how it would affect me in the long run.
Before leaving college I got married and soon move to Minnesota and within a year started a family. I remember going out to look at townhomes and a Realtor asked me how was my credit. I said I have no clue. He told me to fill out a credit application and I did. When he got off the phone with his company after they had pulled my credit he looked at me and said I’m sorry, but it will take you ten years before you can get a mortgage. What he didn’t know was if someone tells me I can’t do something I take it as a challenge. The next day I went to Barnes & Noble and bought every book on credit and finance I could find. Approximately 90 days, I went back to the same Realtor that showed me the townhome. I presented him with my deed for my new townhome. He couldn’t believe it he just about fell over. I showed him my repaired credit report he thought it was manufactured because it was a 765 credit score.
Ever since then I’ve been teaching, coaching finance and repairing credit for 30 thirty years mostly without charge.
The goal of my site is to empower readers to apply confidently knowing they will be approved. I worked many years managing and running automotive dealerships. It used to drive me crazy as a finance manager and as a General Manager when people would come to a dealership with a 480 score and be surprised that they would be turned down for a loan. I want readers to understand the finance process along with all the tools that are at their disposal. Also, this blog with help the readers navigate through a lot of misinformation regard credit scores and financing.
